The Johannesburg Attorneys’ Association (JAA) and Pretoria Attorneys’ Association (PAA) have joined forces to create the Gauteng Attorneys’ Association (GAA).

The GAA will represent the interests of all member attorneys and candidates in Gauteng, as well as the broader interests of all attorneys/candidates in Gauteng, as well as the public.

This joint venture was undertaken to consolidate the efforts of the two historic associations (who have been serving members of the profession for more than 100 years between the two of them) such that attorneys/candidates in Gauteng have more of a voice nationally and specifically with Government, in relation to issues of mutual interest.

All members of the JAA and PAA automatically become members of the GAA.  Provision has been made for non-JAA and non-PAA members to join the GAA directly, but only for a limited time.

The GAA will be holding its inaugural meeting (open to all JAA and PAA members, as well as any other attorney/candidate who wishes to become a member of the GAA/PAA/JAA) on 29 August 2018 at the Protea Hotel in Midrand.  This is set to be a prestigious event with a distinguished line up of engaging speakers, including the Honourable Judge President of the Johannesburg and Pretoria High Court, J Dunstan Mlambo and Mr Pieter de Bruyn from the Association for the Protection of Road Accident Victims who will be discussing the possible constitutional challenges faced by the RABS Bill/Act. Additional guest speakers will be announced in due course, the full details of which will be made public soon.
