The PAA’s Bursary Fund aims to support disadvantaged full-time or part-time law students and improve skills within the legal profession.

What the bursary covers

The bursary primarily covers approved undergraduate tuition fees at accredited tertiary institutions in Pretoria. In certain cases, assistance towards prescribed study materials may also be considered.

Bursaries are awarded annually and are subject to the availability of funds.

Who may apply?

 Applicants must:

  • Be registered, or have been accepted for admission, as a full-time or part-time undergraduate student for the 2027 academic year;
  • Be studying towards a law qualification;
  • Be enrolled at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in Pretoria offering an accredited undergraduate law qualification;
  • Demonstrate financial need;
  • Have a strong academic record; and
  • Not be receiving another bursary or funding covering the same tuition costs, unless this has been fully disclosed.

Important exclusions

The Fund does not provide assistance for:

  • Law School fees for candidate attorneys; or
  • Postgraduate studies.

Important conditions 

  • Bursaries are awarded as grants and generally do not require repayment, provided all bursary conditions are met.
  • Continued funding is subject to satisfactory academic progress.
  • Applicants may be required to re-apply for each academic year.
  • All awards are discretionary and subject to the availability of funds.
  • The Fund may determine a maximum grant limit per year.

Application process

Applications must be submitted before the published closing date together with all required supporting documentation.

Applications for the 2027 academic year will open on 25 August 2026 and close at 16h00 on 31 October 2026. The successful applicants will be informed of the award and the extent thereof as soon as possible thereafter.
